Clash of the Force Titans rages on the new Star Wars poster

It feels like the final duel between the Light and the Dark side. An ecstasy of nostalgia mixed with the present-day pop-culture.

Rey is holding her blue lightsaber as a symbol of the new hope and the Resistance. She is the main source of the powerful blow-up of beautiful blue energy which is expanding further into the universe. She looks (at least in this poster) to have grown to be the stronger one and much more powerful than Kylo Ren who is (wearing his stylish helmet again) fighting her on the edge of some kind of technological ruin, probably a piece of debris from the good old Death Star. It seems he has become the dark knight, an ultimate geek-fan of his beloved grandfather, armed with a trident sabre gushing a red web of lightning that is spreading like a deadly aggressive space cancer.

As you may have noticed, the blue force of the light is a central part of the marketing campaign for the new episode (the design of The Force Awakens comes with a classic yellow logo, The Last Jedi comes unconventionally in red). It was made by Art Factory which also created, for example, the Black Panther poster campaign. Thanks to them, we can finally see the blue light at the end of the tunnel.

If there is anything that could devastate our ultimate happy-ending, it is the upsetting presence of Emperor Palpatine whose Force Ghost is hovering above the crucial fight like a phantom menace. His look gives the poster a kind of mystical feeling (he even resembles an ancient druid), completing the Star Wars poster series with the main villains’ cryptic silhouettes — Darth Maul, Lord Vader, Snoke or Kylo himself.

The outer space, a crucial duel of swords, the foggy combination of blue and red, and the ominous Palpatine’s shadow consuming the stars and the universe — all of these elements fulfil a symbolic view of one climactic showdown for many generations of fans in the name of the holy grail of pop-culture. In my opinion, this is perhaps the most powerful teaser poster of all from the new trilogy. It lets the new characters confront each other on the ruins of the world of the old ones. We will probably quake together with the cosmos. And you still have time to finally pick up your side. So may the…you know what.
